You may submit a single essay with a 2000 word max. Expedited essays will be responded to within 15 days. Fees collected via the expedited option go directly to pay the expenses of the journal. Each month, if there is an overage, funds will be donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Beginning with the summer issue, out July 1st, we will be featuring personal essays about one's political life or political essays about one's personal life. We'll be looking, in particular, for essays that detail the ways that policy or the threat of policy affect an individual in our current climate. Diversity is very important to us as a means of bringing disparate experiences together under one roof with the belief that there are more things that unite us as humans than there are that seperate us.
Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but please let us know if your piece has been accepted elsewhere.
A note on re-prints: We will accept reprints of personal essays that have appeared only in print journals in order to give them a new life on the Internet.
